Johnston School Garden Project The school garden was alive and well. Fresh vegetables were being produced year-round. The students took pride in their work. But lately, there is no garden. The picture of the fresh vegetables is no more. The area that once was the center of the school is now a bed of weeds and dirt. The reason why we need our Graden Back: Research has shown that academics achieve improvement when a school garden is integrated into the student's curriculum. The students focus on life skills on how to grow and manage a garden. The students can also use the garden for Nutritional value and will gain a way of healthy eating. Williams, D.R. & Dixon, P.S. (2013) analyzed 12 different studies on school gardens performed between 1990 and 2010 that showed "overwhelmingly that garden-based learning has a positive impact on students' grades, knowledge, attitudes, and behavior."
